EXERCISE MOTIVATORS
Culture can be encouraging of physical activity…or
not. Researchers studied a variety of motivators
for physical activity and exercise. Since being physically active is a result of self-determination, they described the combination
of autonomy, competence, ego, task, and relatedness of these in the motivation
to exercise. American subjects were more autonomous, task oriented, and
physically active than Turkish subjects reminding researchers and
ultimately us clinicians to customize exercise to the
patient and his/her interests. (1) Dr. Le's Chiropractic & Wellness, L.L.C. has to find out what motivates you! Simple?
Fast? At-home? At-gym? Maybe some mindfulness? To enrich
the exercise effort, adding mindfulness appears hopeful.
Researchers found though that people have misconceptions or no
concept of what mindfulness is or how it is valuable
to mental and overall health. A recent study examined the effectiveness of physical activity and mindfulness activities in averting
mental health issues and decided that it held
promise. (2) Dr. Le's Chiropractic & Wellness, L.L.C. appreciates those kinds of
benefits!
BENEFITS FOR COGNITION, PAIN RELIEF WITH PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
A pill maybe?! None of us would confess to wanting a pill to be physically fit…or would we? Of course
not! As the pharmacological world investigates new drugs to
improve cognitive function in the aging folks, researchers have
also described nutrition, diet, probiotics, cognitive
training, and physical activity, exercise, even dancing – ballroom, aerobic
and Latin - as being beneficial.
(3) Important motivators can be healthy lifestyle
behaviors mixed with chiropractic care. Treating and relieving
chronic pain – linked to reduced
brain gray matter and impaired cognitive function - was found to
bring back normal brain function. (4) That’s what Dr. Le's Chiropractic & Wellness, L.L.C.
does: treat chronic pain with chiropractic care featuring
spinal manipulation.
OLDER FOLKS AND YOUNG KIDS
Curious researchers tackled the question of
older adults’ goals, motivations, and self-determination motivators to lead
a healthy lifestyle and participate in activities to
support that lifestyle like exercise and eating well. Factors
like personality and goal-setting habits were suggested
influencers. (5) Even in kids, researchers observed that behaviors
like breakfast eating, exercise, and sleep patterns influenced their
healthy lifestyle. Foregoing breakfast in
the morning – 11% of kids in a recent study did this – was linked to sleep duration, bedtime, and physical activity. 9.5% of kids
said they experienced poor sleep. 24.9% slept less than the suggested 9 hours. Girls
were not as physically active. Sad news: Such less-than-healthy
habits worsened children’s hand-eye coordination and
attention. Good] news: Better sleep quality bettered
their reaction time in a visual attention test. (6)
